Replica of the famous Thomson M. 1928 submachine gun chambered in 45 ACP.
.
John T. Thompson founded the Auto Ordnance Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1916. This company was financed by Thomas Fortune Ryan, a wealthy man, for the development of a semi-automatic rifle with a delayed opening bolt system. Since the operation of this rifle was not satisfactory, Thompson decided to develop a submachine gun on the same principle in the .45 ACP caliber of the Colt M1911 pistol. The first copy of the Thompson was built in 1917, the first series of 40 pieces between 1918 and 1919, industrial production began in 1921. The weapon was used by the IRA (Irish Republican Army), the underworld, industrialists, the police and the FBI during prohibition where she was better known as "Tommy Gun", "Chicago Typewriter", "Chicago Piano", "Chicago Style" or "The Chopper". The Thompson submachine gun was massively used, in modified and simplified versions, during the Second World War, then during the Korean War.
